Having your baby delivered by a nurse-midwife at Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital involves more than just the delivery. A nurse-midwife is there to support and care for women, their partners and families from the early stages of pregnancy, through labor and delivery and into the first phase of post-partum care. Our certified nurse-midwife practice provides a "customized birth plan" and supports YOUR delivery choices. If a baby is in your future, chances are you are already thinking about the birth experience. Choosing a nurse-midwife for your prenatal care and delivery is one way to assure this time is memorable for all the right reasons.
Our practice philosophy is one of education and support to empower women. Our focus is on wellness and choice. Nurse-midwives do not make decisions for women but are there to provide the right support and information so that women can make their own informed choices about the care they receive before, during and after pregnancy and labor.
All of the nurse-midwives in our practice hold master's degrees in nursing and a special certification in nurse-midwifery. While we independently manage the care of our healthy patients, we have 24-hour access to board-certified physicians in obstetrics and gynecology. Unless serious complications arise, a woman can expect to have all her prenatal and postnatal care needs met by our team of nurse-midwives.
